The Wyoming Department of Health has issued the following news release:
The Wyoming Department of Health's Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Division is hosting a special preview and Cheyenne community meeting on March 14 about "Addiction," a new HBO documentary series.
A panel discussion about the series featuring First Lady Nancy Freudenthal; Laramie County Circuit Court Judge Roberta Coates; Ron Reedy, Transitions Program director with Peak Wellness Center; and Robert Keney, youth advocate, is planned. Rodger McDaniel, deputy director of the Wyoming Department of Health for the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Division, will serve as moderator.
"Most Wyoming residents recognize the often devastating effects of drug and Alcohol addiction on families and on our communities, but it's not as easy to understand the causes of addiction and effective treatment choices," McDaniel said. "This series offers an opportunity for all of us to learn more."
McDaniel expects the expert panel to discuss addiction, obstacles to recovery and treatment and possible solutions.
The documentary series will begin airing on HBO March 15 and will later be available on DVD. The project is being produced by HBO in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held in the Centennial Room at Laramie County Community College (southwest corner of campus).
