Oklahoma State University-Tulsa issued the following news release:
Oklahoma State University-Tulsa will host a watch party Jan. 13 for the documentary "Crystal Darkness Oklahoma," a campaign aimed at tackling Methamphetamine abuse in the state.
The 30-minute documentary is part of a statewide campaign led by Oklahoma First Lady Kim Henry and former Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane. The documentary will be shown in North Hall 140 at 6:30 p.m.
"Oklahoma has made tremendous strides in fighting the epidemic of Methamphetamine, but far too many families across our state still struggle with this powerful and deadly drug," Henry said. "Crystal Darkness Oklahoma will highlight education, prevention, recovery and hope to let folks know that their life can get back on track."
The campaign is modeled after similar programs in Nevada, California, Oregon and Arizona. It is aimed at increasing Meth awareness, as well as providing treatment and law enforcement assistance to communities - large and small - across Oklahoma. The documentary will feature gripping testimonials that graphically portray the devastating impact Meth has had on families and communities.
Call centers will be set up across the state during the documentary's airing to assist individuals who think they or a loved one need help. People can call 211 the night of the documentary and the days following to receive aid in their fight against meth. They can also call the number to report Meth activity in their community.
After the documentary's airing, the second phase of the campaign will begin, including statewide drug awareness education and training for schools, parents and community groups, as well as ensuring law enforcement entities continue working together to suppress and eliminate Meth production, trafficking, distribution and use.
